Tangle Company 2013

Drawn from the best of England’s African, Black British and Caribbean theatre talent, Tangle Company is our resident ensemble and is at the heart of all our work. The artists represent the company on tour, help shape our programme and collaborate on an ongoing basis with our Artistic Director to develop their craft as performers and singers. Many Company members are also part of our practitioner teaching team, working with communities across South West England.

Tangle Company 2017 consists of eight African – Caribbean actor singers (see info tab) whom will perform a brand new collective theatre work – No One Is An Island, comprising two newly created poems.  No One Is An Island includes a capella songs arranged by Allyson Devenish and is directed by Anna Coombs.

Tangle Company 2016 consisted of eight African – Caribbean actor singers whom performed a brand new collective theatre work – Towards The Sun , by Patricia Cumper MBEChino OdimbaLouisa Adjoa Parker and Paula B Stanic.

Our 2015 ensemble performed Steering Through Stars by Paula B Stanic. and our 2014 ensemble performed Water, Bread and Salt . In 2013 our ensemble consisted of sixteen actor singers (eight men and eight women, see info tab) who performed two brand new commissioned works. The first was I Have a Dream,  a collection of ten Shakespearean-style contemporary sonnets from multiple authors each inspired by Martin Luther King’s iconic speech. The second commission was a new poetic piece by Patricia Cumper MBE. Both formed part of our Dream Nation project and were presented with acapella songs arranged by Allyson Devenish.

Over the coming years, we aim for Tangle Company to be an important opportunity for artists to work together to collaborate, develop new stage material and hone their craft, taking inspiring performances to parts of the UK where there is limited opportunity to access such work at first hand.
